'Vibe' Magazine Front Cover Analysis


  • This is the Title ‘Vibe’, it is in capitals making it visible and noticeable to the readers and is also very large making the magazine cover eye-catching. The colour of ‘Vibe’ is a neutral colour, white. This suggests how the audience varies appealing to both genders, being girls and boys of a teenage age range.
  • This is the Central Image ‘Chris Brown’. He has been airbrushed to come across perfect, faultless and natural, this will attract and appeal to teenage girls for the simple reason of finding him attractive and good-looking. The image may also appeal to a small percentage of boys as they may want to aspire and be like him. They are using the image of Chris Brown to sell the magazine.
  • This is the Puff ‘Is that Chris Brown? ‘I’m still a Virgin...’ The first part of the anchorage text colour is white which causes the story to stand-out and seperate it from other on-goings on the cover. The words ‘Chris Brown’ are larger than the other text to catch the audience’s attention particularly the female gender of the audience, as they are using his name alone to sell the story/magazine. The second part of the anchorage text a smaller size compared to the first part, however the word ‘Virgin’ will still catch the customer’s attention as they may or will be intrigued to find out what this is about and will buy the magazine for that matter alone. It is also in a different colour, being red this also helps the text stand-out as it contrasts to the other colours on the cover.
  • The Main Colours of the magazine are White, Red, Black and Green. The colours help the magazine achieve its attractiveness and its appeal to the customers and audience. The magazine doesn’t look either confusing or chaotic which is why there are no more than 4 main colours. The bright and attractive choice of colours acheive the exciting styles that the teenage audience require.
  • This is a Puff ‘CD’s are dead...’ the text is again in capitals causing it catch the audience and customer’s attention. The Puff Box is a ridged circle shape and the colour is red. The colour red is a dominant, powerful advertising colour and will immediately catch eyes with the customers causing them to read and identify the Puff Box. The overall appearance of the Puff Box is very striking and bold.
  • These are Puffs, for example ‘Usher’s Exes’, and ‘Can Cory Booker save Newark?’. The colour of the text throughout these sell lines consists of green and white, which will not only come across less confusing to the audience but they also are neutral colours as the stories can appeal to both men and women. The text is also in capitals which makes it eye catching and bold.
  • This is another one of the Puffs, 'Cociane, Herion, HIV- And the best love songs of the 80's...' Considering the size of the other two Puffs, this box is rather large which makes it more noticeable for the readers to identify. The text is in capitals, making it bold and striking and prominent. There are also selected words in the bottom line which are green, these words will automatically become noticed first and will stand out as they seem as though they are stating something.

'Q' Magazine Front Cover Analysis


  • This is the Title ‘Q’, the colour is white with a red square background and is also large and bold to attract the readers eye. As the colours and style are quite neutral it will appeal to both genders, male and female. We can also gather from the design that the magazine attracts more the older generation being adults and possibly in an age range between the mid 20's to the 40's. The title of the magazine lacks the entertaining, engaging and bright styles the children of today request therefore they would op for a more vibrant, lively and appealing magazine.
  • The Central Image of the magazine is ‘BeyoncĂ©’. She has been airbrushed and presented in a flawless and natural way however this is not a natural picture. They have done this to appeal to a different type of audience being young teenage girls as they possible idolise and look up to her as a role model. She has been presented in this way to make teenage girls want to buy it to look and be like her. The anchorage text to support this image is 'Beyonce', the magazine believe that her image alone can sell the magazine, which is why they include little information about her.
  • The Main Colours of the magazine are White, Red and Black. These colours are may not be bright and colourful however they are extremely bold and eye-catching to ensure that the magazine will draw the readers attention. There are no more than 3-4 main colours which will prevent the front cover from becoming cluttered and confusing to the audience. All of the colours contrast each other causing them all to stand-out equally.
  • This is a Sell Line ‘1of 2 special covers to collect!’ The text is white and is in a red circle. These two colours contrast well against each other causing the sell line to become noticeable and stand-out. They are using the sell line as a technique for people to buy more ‘Q’ magazines as they use the words ‘Special’ and ‘Collect’ this will make people will immediately want to continue to buy them for this reason, causing the magazine sales to rise and continue to make profits.
  • This is the Puff ‘20 Exclusive new interviews’, the number 20 is presented in a large font which will catch the readers attention and the number itself is also a large number. The customers will then buy this magazine believing there are a lot of interviews to read about inside and it will be 'worth the money' that they will pay. The names are in capitals making the listed names obvious and clear to read; as ‘BeyoncĂ©’ is on the front cover the anchorage text is her name which connects them two together, it is larger than the other names helping it become noticeable to the audience and stand-out. They are using her name to sell the magazine.
  • This is the Puff ‘20 Greatest Albums…’ the font colour is black and is also in capitals. This will draw in the customer’s attention immediately as it is bold and striking. It is about music so it will attract obviously all of those who are interested in music and finding out the greatest albums of the magazines history. The number ‘20’ is larger as people will immediately think and believe there is more information to read about.
